The 6th Form+ curriculum is tailored for pupils with vision and sensory impairments, offering a highly personalised and ambitious approach to learning. Rather than expecting pupils to adapt to a set curriculum, we collaboratively design individual learning pathways around their unique needs, strengths, and aspirations. The aim of the 6th Form+ curriculum is to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary for the best possible life outcomes, building on their previous achievements. Recognising the diverse needs and abilities of our pupils, the curriculum focuses on optimising life chances and fostering holistic skills through an interdisciplinary approach.
The curriculum is built around four key principles:
1. Independence Skills: Daily living skills, Functional skills, Personal and self-help skills.
2. Meaningful Learning Activities: Vocational learning, Accreditation and qualifications, Careers guidance and work experience, Creative and therapeutic activities.
3. Preparation for Adulthood Skills: Social and communication skills, Independent living skills.
4. Opportunities to Continue Lifelong Learning: Links with post-school provisions, Transition coordinator support and events, Access to post-19 community facilities, Strong emphasis on British values.
Through this carefully structured curriculum, pupils are empowered to engage with the world around them, participate fully in opportunities, and transition confidently into adulthood and beyond.
